There are a lot of preparations to make and things to do before Hajj or Umrah, which first-time pilgrims need to make themselves aware of. In order to ensure the journey bears fruitful gains, pilgrims can prepare by:

1. Physical Preparation

Build up your stamina

Get the proper vaccines

Dress according to the weather

Prepare list of medicine needed

2. Mental Preparation

Well-prepare before departing; seek knowledge and attend Umrah/Hajj classes and ensure it follows the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Get ready for a spiritual experience before departing, it is recommended to do the following:

Get necessary visa.

Consult with a doctor about your medical conditions.

Get Vaccinations before leaving.

All your Debts should be paid off before leaving for Hajj.

Change money to local currency and prepare emergency funds (e.g. debit card), as well as for the journey/airport.

Write/Update Will.

Get a pocket Quran or Download the As Salah App.

Arrange for someone to take care of what is under your obligations.

Reconfirm your reservation for hotel and transportation.

Leave a copy of the itinerary with your family.

Choose your clothing that is modest, loose fitting, covers the awrah, not decorative and does not resemble the opposite gender.

Label your luggages clearly with secure locks.

Buy Hajj and Umrah insurance – personally, we prefer to buy from Etiqa.

Seek forgiveness from Allah SWT and those you have wronged.

Do not publicize your Hajj and do not boast about it.

Purify your intention – intend to perform the ibadah only for Allah SWT.
